Even though many of you in Cle-Elum, Roslyn, Ronald & Easton know me- many of you do not. I have been a resident of Kittitas County for almost 20 years, in fact the first several years I lived in Cle Elum renting a condo in the old Elementary School on 2nd Avenue. I served two terms on the Cle-Elum-Roslyn Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, several years taking the lead in the Frontier Days 4th of July Parade. I immediately fell in love with the unique culture & community of the upper-county. If it were not for the commute to Ellensburg especially in the winter - I would probably still live in the upper county as I love skiing and snowmobiling! I want to tell you why I am running for Kittitas County Clerk and why I am not only the best candidate for Kittitas County but especially for the Citizens in the Upper County. I am the only candidate that has a proven track record of citizen focused service. In 2017 I was awarded and opened Ellensburg Licensing and in the 5 years of operations the citizens who have a choice of three offices in Kittitas County have by a wide margin made Ellensburg Licensing their choice for their vehicle and vessel licensing needs. How does this relate to the Clerks Office? I have never seen a government agency office ever go out of business for failing to provide good service to the citizens that it is tasked with serving. Instead the answer always we need a bigger budget (more taxes) and more staff. There is no incentive for a bureaucrat to be inovative, look at processes to better serve the taxpayer. My opponent has shown she is only interested in maintaing the status quo. While I have suggested immediate changes I would make if elected and how I would expand not only access and services here at the County Seat in Ellensburg- I would expand access and services in the upper County which has been underserved and is the fastest growing part of Kittitas County. I have a plan that will generate revenue and support the staffing in the upper county without adding additional burden's to the taxpayer. My opponent has shown that she is only interested in doing the bare minimum to get elected. While I have stated one of my first actions would be to petition the County Commissioners to allow me to use staggered flex scheduling to allow the Clerk's office to be open duriing the lunch hour and to at least 5pm each day - my opponent has taken no action. I have stated that I would look for opportunities to expand services to the upper county like other county offices have done - my opponent has taken no action. Even though I have said that I would expand Passport Processing Services, which because of COVID and the Real ID Act which goes in to effect in March of 2023- there is a pent up demand for services that our appointed Clerk - has no plan to expand access for this self-supporting program or expand this needed service to the upper county. Prior to my making it an issue for the campaign Passport Processing hours were from 9-12:00 and 1-3pm on Wednesdays. Now they have added a few token hours on Thursday mornings. After completing a survey of other County Clerks that offer the service - we have virtually the most restricted hours of any County Clerks office in the State of Washington for this much needed service.
BRIAN CULLINANE FOR KITTITAS COUNTY CLERK!
